The Plastic Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg

Brief synopsis (no spoilers):

This one isn't about Ceony, although she does have a cameo. Alvie is an American magician, visiting England for something like an internship. Her skill as an inventor is strong, so her Polymaking boss puts her to work right away. As she explores the craft, she becomes involved in a dispute between her mentor and another magician
