Homemakers: A Domestic Handbook for the Digital Generation by Brit Morin

This book is more of a reference type book so it doesn't fit into the typical book review outline, so I'm just going to make one up: Author: " After graduation, Morin moved to   Silicon Valley . She worked at   Apple   on   iTunes   and later spent four years at   Google , where she helped launch projects such as   Google TV ,   Google Maps ,   Google Search , and   iGoogle . [1] In 2011, at age 25, she left Google to start  Brit + Co , a media and commerce company focused on empowering and inspiring women to fully embrace their potential, and find a more informed, entertained and empowered creative self. Brit + Co has a monthly audience of 125M online and across platforms." (Wikipedia) Concept: " Over the past three generations, the rules of homemaking and our very notions of what a homemaker is and does have radically changed. We are still a nation of makers, but we are crafting and creating beyond the home, in both the analog and digital worlds. And in

Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book by Jennifer Donnelly

Brief synopsis (no spoilers): Belle finds an enchanted book during her stay at the castle.  Category: YA Why I chose this book: I love Beauty and the Beast and books, so it sounded like an interesting twist My personal opinion:  *Some spoiler alerts but I don't know how to describe it without.*  Death and Love are characters (used in much the same way as in The Book Thief). It was one of Love's Enchantresses that put the spell on the Beast and castle and Death and Love have a bet as to who will win out over the Beast. Death stacks the book (literally) by putting a book called Nevermore into the library. This prologue was kind of interesting. Belle is frustrated by the Beast and her life at the castle. Those feelings coupled with her adventurous spirit, Belle walks right into Nevermore when she finds it. (And the reader is screaming, "Don't do it!") It is a magical world until the enchantment starts to fall apart and Belle finds out that it has al

The Revealed by Sarah Kleck

Brief synopsis (no spoilers) Jared and Evelyn are very much in love, and very much the heirs of their respective magical ancestors. Morgana is still very evil, and continues to recruit evil people to follow her. Category Intended for YA, I imagine Why I chose this book Next in series My personal opinion (the review) I should have stopped with the first book. But it ended in a cliffhanger, so I felt the need to continue. What a disappointment. The language and sexual situations were completely unnecessary. Warnings Language: yes Violence: yes "Adult" situations: yes Death: yes Movie rating equivalent R for language and adult situations Protagonist description Evelyn is weak and helpless, until she receives the magic of Nimue Point of view of story First, focused on Evelyn Book length Medium-long Story flow Great Grammar and spelling issues None Character connection (no spoilers) None For series: Independent or integral (stand-alone or back story dependent) Integral Series

Leviathan Wakes By James S. A. Corey

Brief synopsis (no spoilers) I didn't read enough to get the full gist, but what I caught was that the entire solar system is being populated, and there's strife between the Inners (people on or near Earth) and the Belts (people farther away). There's also a mystery about the entire crew of a ship practically disappearing. Category Sci-Fi Why I chose this book Recommended by Amazon My personal opinion (the review) The language was awful. The story line was probably excellent- I enjoyed the first chapter. But I can't take the f-words. Skip it. Read the Red Rising series instead. Warnings Language: very frequent Violence: unknown "Adult" situations: unknown Death: assuming frequent Movie rating equivalent R, for language Protagonist description Unknown Point of view of story Shifted Book length Unknown Story flow Decent Grammar and spelling issues None that I noticed in the first chapter Character connection (no spoilers) None

Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

Brief synopsis (no spoilers) Lynn lives with her mom in an old house in rural Ohio. It gets very cold there, but she and her mom have worked out a solid survival system: kill anyone that approaches their pond. There's a desperate water shortage, so it's the most precious commodity. Category Fiction, maybe intended for YA Why I chose this book Rated highly on the library website My personal opinion (the review) The story premise was fun, the execution was decent. I liked that human connections drew Lynn out of her very reserved nature. The language was bearable, but the violence got to be a bit much. The ending- was it justice or revenge, or does it even matter which? Not the best book I've read this year, but not the worst either. I probably won't read it again, but it was okay once. I won't let my YA readers (my kids) read it any time soon. My wife would hate it, for the death. Warnings Language: Not horrible, but definitely present. No f-words that I recall Viol
