Brief synopsis (no spoilers): This picks up after The Blood of Olympus and we find out the punishment that Apollo receives from angering his father Zeus.
Category: YA Lit
Why I chose this book: I have enjoyed Riordan's previous works
My personal opinion: Terrible! Don't even start it, it's not worth it. From the beginning I couldn't stand Apollo (And yes, I know it's supposed to be that way, but I couldn't get over it). As a minor god he has always had everything done for him and his life has been easy. Even his previous punishments haven't been so bad. So when he comes to earth and things don't go his way all the time, he does nothing but whine.
I tried to push on through that, but what really got me to put the book down was the glorification of the LGBT sect. There was a bunch about Will and Nico and Apollo says something to the effect of, "If you are wondering if I thought it was weird to see one of my sons with another boy, well god's don't worry too much about things like that. I myself have had many partners of men, women, and other orientations."
Riordan has become such a sellout. His characters an story lines are old and tired. Even the writing in this book wasn't as prosaic as his previous books have been. He shoved the LGBT/inclusion mantra down the reader's throat every chance he got. It's just not worth it. So disappointed.
