Brief synopsis (no spoilers):
People gain superhuman powers, but instead of becoming superheroes, they are all corrupt. The US government is completely unable to control them, so they simply don't. Each Epic (superhuman) fights for the territory they want to own, and the regular humans do their best to stay out of the way. But there are some who believe that heroes will emerge, and save humanity from despotic Epics.
