Rated highly on Amazon, recommended based on reading history

My personal opinion (the review)
The book is excellently written. It has a bit of a Dune feel to it, because of the names and the city in a desolated area. And it has a bit of a Percy Jackson feel to it, because of the interaction between immortals and humans. And it has a Young Adult Fiction feel to it, because of the teen angst-y love situations.

Language:  some minor; several uses of a fictitious swear word
Violence: some, but pretty minor
"Adult" situations: references to prostitutes
Death: yes, and of major character(s)

It's fun to show them how it must be equal on each side to balance. Showing that size can affect weight is shown on the page where all the animals are on one side with the big bird on the other. This could be a fun activity to replicate with toys if doing a science lesson at home.
