Book name and author
Digital Fortress, by Dan Brown
Brief synopsis (no spoilers)
Classic spy vs. spy. NSA intelligence agents and resources, against a brilliant former NSA agent. Also, unbreakable codes and giant computers.
Why I chose this book
I like Dan Brown books, and my sister had a copy (convenience)
My personal opinion (the review)
This is a story that should be very boring. It's about cryptography and giant computers and very brainy people. But there's fun and action and romance and psychological conflict and an assassin, so it works. I wish I hadn't wasted my time, though. The language was just too much, but it didn't get bad until the end. I didn't want to put it down by then. One thing I really did like is that not all the characters were what they seemed to be- love that. Hide the bad guy in plain sight, for the win!
Warnings (language, violence, "adult" situations, death, etc.)
Language: strong
Violence: plentiful, but not graphic
Adult situations: several, and the emotion is fairly vivid (and the characters and not married, just engaged), but they quickly "fade to the next morning" before they get uncomfortable
Death: plentiful- the assassin takes out just about everyone but the hero; and back in the "castle" where the "damsel in distress" is, several key people die there, too
Movie rating equivalent
R, mostly for language
Protagonist description
Susan is portrayed as super pure and innocent and brilliant; her fiancee David is brilliant and genuine, but also weak, but he also wins against the assassin, so not that weak
Point of view of story
Switches between Susand and David
Book length
Felt long- maybe a week and a half
Story flow
Kinda dragged sometimes. Several parts were very predictable, but the author goes into technical details anyway
Grammar and spelling issues
None
